Düsseldorf

The city is located on the right bank of the Rhine, at the confluence of the Düssel River, which gave the city its name. The Rhine-Ruhr metropolitan region is one of the largest in Europe and the largest in Germany. Across 20 cities and 14 districts covering an area of almost 10,000 sq. km, about 11 million people live there.

In 2011, Düsseldorf ranked among the top five cities in the world with the highest quality of life, taking second place. Furthermore, experts from the consulting company Mercer recognized it as the safest city in Germany.

If you are looking for an apartment in Düsseldorf, you should also consider its surroundings. Düsseldorf borders Duisburg, Ratingen, and Mülheim to the north; Mettmann, Erkrath, and Hilden to the east; Langenfeld to the south; and Neuss, Meerbusch, and Dormagen to the west. Apartment prices in these cities are significantly lower than in Düsseldorf, while the border between them and Düsseldorf is often merely a legal concept, running along one of the streets (this is especially true for the city’s western borders).

Historically, Düsseldorf developed primarily as an administrative, financial, banking, and stock exchange center. After the opening of the Düsseldorf Messe exhibition complex in 1971, the city became an international economic, trade, and cultural hub. Another important factor is the presence of Germany’s third-largest international airport. By buying an apartment in Düsseldorf, you will be living in a German fashion capital, home to the world’s largest fashion fair “Collections Premieren Düsseldorf” (CPD). Moreover, on Düsseldorf’s main street, Königsallee, you can visit shops representing all the major global fashion houses.

Düsseldorf is a leading center in the fields of advertising, European patent law, and telecommunications technology. The headquarters of many large companies (Vodafone Germany, Metro AG, ThyssenKrupp, E.ON, Rheinmetall, Henkel, Degussa, NRW.BANK, WestLB, E-Plus) are registered in the city. Daimler produces the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter in Düsseldorf, and Volkswagen AG produces the VW Crafter. Thus, by buying an apartment or a rental property in Düsseldorf, you can be sure that it will be easy to rent out. After all, a huge number of white-collar and blue-collar workers live and work in the city, ensuring a consistently high and solvent demand for rental properties.

Speaking of Düsseldorf, one cannot forget about Cologne – the rivalry between these cities has been going on for centuries. Foreign buyers who haven’t yet taken one side or the other often consider buying an apartment in Cologne as an alternative to one in Düsseldorf.
